RCIA Catechists' Conference 2010
We were privileged to have Susanne Kowal from the Diocese of Plymouth with us for the annual conference for RCIA Catechists on Saturday 23rd October. Susanne shared some deep insights into the nature of the RCIA and catechesis. RCIA Catechists' Conference 2009
On Saturday 31st October 2009, the annual conference for RCIA catechists took place at Our Lady of Consolation in Govanhill. This year, a number of new catechists joined the Diocesan team for reflection, study and support as they begin to journey with those seeking new life as members of the Church.
The event consisted of four workshops: "What is RCIA?" was led by Bobby Wallace; Fiona McCartney offered "A toolkit for the RCIA"; Fr. Tom Kilbride directed a workshop on working with the Gospel of Luke, "The certainty of things taught"; while Fr. David Wallace reflected on the liturgy of the rite of acceptance.
The afternoon input was led by Sr. Laurentia Carroll OP who gave some food for thought to all of us in our role as catechists.
Comments from participants at the end of the day always help to shape future events on offer. We offer here a sample of their refelctions:
"Very successful event. I go away with a lot to think about"
"It made me realise how important it is to know exactly what you are talking about when helping people prepare for baptism or full communion with the Church".
"Today was a fantastic experience and has put to bed any fears I had in participating in RCIA in my parish, but also gives me the confidence and enthusiasm to run the course."
"Well planned day. Good workshops. Send workshop content electronically to adapt them for your team." (working on this already!)
"It's so good to meet others who are doing the same work in their parishes".
There are a number of areas for development listed on the evaluations also. Although we can't possibly cover everything for everyone at these conferences, we will continue to listen to the needs of our catechists and respond the best we can!
